A cozy house is impossible to imagine without indoor plants. They fill the atmosphere of the house with a pleasant feeling of comfort and care. Beautiful pots and flower pots complement the interior, and the flowers delight the owners of the house. In turn, plants need care: they, like people, do not tolerate a sharp change in temperature, like fresh soil, and rot from excessive moisture. Often, direct sunlight for the leaves of indoor plants is destructive, so you need to protect them from excessive sun. If you take care of their wards, they will delight the eye with abundant flowering and healthy leaves.

Azalea.

The azalea looks very beautiful in the house. It pleases its owners with bright flowers in the winter, when all other plants, such as hippeastrum or begonia, have long been sleeping. The height of this plant is approximately 50 cm, which allows it to be placed on window sills, cabinets and shelves.

For your information

More recently, Azaleas were listed as a separate species of plants of the Heather family. Today, in the botanical classification, the genus Azalea is included in the genus Rhododendron. However, in gardening, Azaleas continue to be separated from the main genus of Rhododendrons.

Most Azalea flowers have 5 stamens, in contrast to Rhododendrons, where they count from ten. The exceptions are Canadian Azalea and Vazeya Azalea which have from 7 to 10 stamens.

All azaleas are divided into two groups:

  • Deciduous azaleas (Deciduous Azaleas) - These include deciduous species and varieties that drop leaves in the fall.
  • Evergreen azaleas (Evergreen Azaleas) - This includes evergreen species and varieties (retain all or most of the leaves all year round).

In indoor floriculture, Azalea varieties based on two dwarf species 30-50 cm high were widely used:

  • Rhododendron simsii - Rhododendron Sims, or Azalea Sims, or Indian azalea;
  • Rhododendron obtusum - Rhododendron dull, or Japanese azalea.

Azalea flowers bloom almost simultaneously. They are smooth and terry, which creates a fluffy look. The color scheme is represented by white, pink, red and mixed lines. Azalea flowers can even be speckled. They are just amazing.

Home Azalea Care

Azaleas, unlike most indoor flowers, love the cool air in the room. In summer, they are very affected by hot air. They need to be hidden from the sun in a cool place or in an air-conditioned room. Often you need to spray the plant and even try to cover the pot with pieces of ice to cool it.

In winter, azalea feels good at a temperature of 10-12 degrees. Even at 18 degrees Celsius, the flower is not yet capricious. It can be put on the veranda. Some types of azaleas can withstand freezing up to -10 degrees. If the azalea is only in the room, then you need to moisten the air, otherwise the flowering plants can be in danger. The flowers may not bloom, dry and fall.

Azalea.

Watering the azalea should be constant. It is only worth monitoring the condition of the earth. If it is too dry, then the flower is placed in a container of water for 4-5 hours. If, on the contrary, the earth is too wet, then watering reduces and cancel spraying, especially when the air temperature decreases.

At the end of flowering, the azalea is transplanted. At the same time it should be trimmed. All long shoots need to be cut. For azaleas, it is better to choose a bowl. In it, she feels more saturated with oxygen, since the soil cannot be loosened so as not to damage the roots. The composition of the soil should be combined. It includes sand and leafy soil, and even peat. Azalea propagates by cuttings. This process is long and troublesome, but the beauty of the flower is worth it.

Azalea.

Often, azalea is affected by a spider mite. This pest can completely destroy the plant. Therefore, at the first signs of its appearance, the plant urgently needs to be sprayed. This should be continued until the final disappearance of the tick.

Acquiring azalea to replenish your small indoor garden, you bring beauty and joy to the house, which will cause a smile among others.
