Strawberries, or as it is still properly called - garden strawberries - this is the leading berry crop in household plots for many years. Every year she argues for the title of the first berry of the season with honeysuckle, but you must admit, can a honeysuckle boast such beauty with a strawberry berry, such a taste, charm on the lips of a pretty girl? Of course not, that’s why neither currant, with its bones ready to be stuck in every mouth mouth, nor the honeysuckle that freezes, crumbles, or is struck by goldfish, they can never taste like strawberries - the queen of berries.

Strawberries, or Strawberries (Fragaria × ananassa)

In addition to taste, strawberries are also very useful: it contains a huge set of vitamins and minerals, and any, even the most capricious, child will always enjoy it with sour cream and sugar. They say that raspberries or lemon will cure you of a cold, that actinidia and dogrose are rich in vitamin C. And if you feel a little sick, try to taste a seagull with crushed strawberry fruits, it will be easier for you right away in the morning, but the main thing is that it’s so nice.

In addition, in strawberries there is a large amount of folic acid, here, apparently, the leaders in this indicator are grapes and raspberries. Eating strawberries, you simply will not experience problems with the intestines, strengthen your immunity and clear the walls of your blood vessels from toxins.

Strawberry is almost the only berry that is grown on every continent of our planet and in any restaurant you can be offered a portion of these berries with cream.

Strange as it may seem, South America is considered to be the birthplace of strawberries, it was from there that it spread across all continents, and almost every breeder who worked with this berry became famous for its personal variety or at least the perfect form, that is, each of the seedlings identified something unusual and great, but not everyone has granted them to the world.

Of course, for the beauty, charm and such excessive nutritional value you have to pay a fee. It so happens that on the same site with the same farmer, strawberries suddenly suddenly begin to lose sugar, and sometimes even bitter. Often there was a watery taste and sour taste. So what could it be and how to rectify the situation in such a way that this would never happen to anyone again?

To begin with, let's figure out the varieties: is the farmer right, did he make a mistake when transplanting a strawberry plantation; But her place needs to be changed at least every 5-6 years, and experienced farmers say that every 4 years.

Let us turn to the State Register, now there are 93 varieties of strawberries in it, of which the following dessert tastes: Bogota, Torpeda, Rusich, Khibiny Beauty, Rosinka, Bohemia, Zaluchevskaya, Ciritsa, Toros, Viola, Geyser, Elsanta, Elizaveta 2, Zenkara, Kubata , Vima Rina, Duet, Lyubasha, Coquette, Bogdalena, Pokrovskaya, Bereginya, Barabinskaya, Vima Kimberly, Nelly, Bersenevskaya, Sadovospasskaya, Yoshkarolinka, Lyubava, Portola, Scented basket, Snow White, Crimean early, Krymanka 87 Tsarskoyo, Yuniol Fireworks, Relay Relay, Sudarushka, Kalinka, Harvest ynaya TSGL, Orlets and 50 October.

You can familiarize yourself with the description of new and better varieties of strawberries (pineapple or garden strawberries) in our materials "Strawberries - the largest varieties that do not require frequent transplanting" and "Strawberries - new varieties".

Strawberry berries on the bush.

As you can see, the choice of varieties of garden strawberries, the tasting score of which is rated at 4.5 or higher, which is considered a fairly high indicator, is very large, that is, there are plenty to choose from, and if exactly one of these varieties grows on the site, then it tastes great fruits should still be provided, but, alas, this does not always happen.

The reason that even in such fine strawberry varieties, whose taste is rated so highly, the fruits can be acidified or have an openly sour bite, there may be moisture, or rather, watering, untimely or incorrect. Of course, we are not safe from the rainfall in the summer, it can pour all day, and as you know, the ripening period of strawberry falls in the spring, and when it rains during this period, this is completely normal, it is not normal only if they very many, and they are frequent. Therefore, excess moisture is quite capable of degrading the taste of garden strawberries, making it fresh. From an excess of moisture, the berries become watery, sugars (namely sugars) literally dissolve in the mass of the fetus and when consumed they are not corny. Sometimes the taste of strawberries filled with water is even bitter, but this is an even greater deviation from the norm.

The taste, or rather the sweetness of strawberries, can also be affected by the placement of beds. In large farms, this is always strictly monitored, and in our kindergartens and vegetable gardens a couple of beds of the same variety can be placed a few meters from each other, as a result of which one bed with the same variety will be in a well-lit area, and the other - in a more obscured. It is well known that in the light of strawberries accumulate more sugars, so the tastes of even the same variety, if it grows in different conditions of even one garden, may differ - the berry that grew in the shade will not be sweet. In addition, a complex of unfavorable factors, a combination of circumstances can be observed in this situation: areas illuminated and warmed by the sun, even a certain excess of moisture can evaporate and bring the soil composition closer to normal, but that strawberry that grows in partial shade or shadow, alas, it will not be able to do this, then excess moisture will also affect the taste.

Ideally, so that the taste of the strawberry variety matches the one declared in the State Register, strawberries should be located at least eight hours in the sun, and the soil beneath it should not be excessively, but moderately moist (drip irrigation is ideal).

We go further - the soil: the taste of strawberries sometimes pretty much depends on the quality of the soil, even if the same varieties grow in different areas. In fact, without jokes - on one ground strawberries will be sweet as honey, and on the other with a barely noticeable presence of sweetness.

Another reason, by the way, is common among summer residents: they plant their favorite strawberry bush on the site (or a dozen of their favorite bushes) and grow them literally for decades. It is clear that at one fine moment the bush becomes so old that it loses the taste familiar to the summer resident, becoming corny fresh. The old root system, apparently, is no longer able to work out the actions set for it, and not the entire supply of nutrients necessary for the full development of the berry falls into it. The first bell that strawberries will soon become not quite a typical taste, is to change their size - at first they are trite smaller.

Regrettably, even a few strawberry bushes growing in your summer cottage, at least every five or six years, must be renewed for new ones, taking a mustache from them or buying new seedlings (it doesn’t matter how to renew) the main thing is replanting them to a new site with nutritious, moderately moist and well-lit soil.

So let's recap. As a result, we, in total, found reasons why strawberries could lose their sweetness.

Berries of Strawberry, or Pineapple Strawberry (Fragaria × ananassa)

Causes of Strawberry Sweets Loss

First reason - a mistake with a strawberry variety, the gardener, transferring his collection, corrupted the variety and now that variety, which he believes should be sweet, alas, has "lost" its sweetness. Conclusion: when transferring the collection you need to be as careful as possible and always sign varieties.

Second reason - long growing period. In one place, strawberries have been growing for more than six years, the bushes are old, their root system is worn out, and it cannot provide the former mass and former taste of the fruits of this culture.

Reason three - excess moisture in the area: if it rains, then, in fact, you are not to blame, but you can often loosen the soil so that the soil crust does not form, and the moisture evaporates faster. In fact, you can do the same with excess watering of a site.

The reason is quarter is the soil. The thing is that strawberries simply adore fairly fertile and drained soil, sometimes even slightly acidified (pH 5.5-6.0). If you notice that this year the taste of strawberries is not typical of a variety with a lack of sugar, then feed it the next spring with compost mixed in equal proportions with river sand, and then water the soil well. It seems to be a trifle, and you can’t count it as top dressing, but the fruits really turn out to be sweeter and larger, of course, if the plantation is fresh.

Reason five - This is the height of the beds. If your site is uneven, is a slope or a series of irregularities, then you can just make high beds, thus aligning them, and get a stable crop of sweet fruits from them.

Reason six - incorrect location of the beds. Ideally, strawberry plants should be arranged so that plants are lit for at least eight hours a day. The warmth and abundance of light are almost two of the main factors that are of paramount importance in the taste qualities of berries.

Planting strawberry garden (strawberries)

Reason seven - compacted stands. Gardeners often try to save as much space as possible on the site, so they plant maximum plants in the beds. But strawberries prefer freedom and, given its further growth, it is necessary to provide it with more space. Usually the bushes are planted on the plot using the square-nesting method; on average, the distance between the bushes is 30 cm, and between the rows - 45-50 cm. If the plantings are cramped, the fruits will be exactly smaller and can be fresh, because the plants do not there will be enough power.

Reason eight - unhealthy strawberry bushes. When planting plants on the site, be sure to ensure that they are completely healthy, such phenomena as mold, rot and other problems are unacceptable in seedlings, they can cause depletion and lower quality of the fruit.

Reason nine - Not an optimal landing time. Everyone knows that strawberries are best planted in August, but for some reason they are planted when they like. Remember, the most optimal is to plant strawberries in August, during which time she manages to develop a full-fledged root system. If you are a resident of a cool climate, then by the coming cold weather, be sure to mulch the soil. Then the bushes will survive the winter, and the fruits will be sweet - this will be practically guaranteed.

Reason ten - hurry. Do not rush to get a lot of fruits in the first year after planting strawberry seedlings in the fall. Allow the plants to develop better and gain energy in the first season in order to present you with delicious and sweet fruits.

Reason eleventh - mowing. Often in the fall, gardeners with an ordinary manual scythe simply mow the leaf blades from the site, so you can damage the growth points, changes may well begin that will lead to a deterioration in the quality of strawberries, so try to comb the leaf blades with a rake with small teeth.
